Sports Studies Program

SPORTS STUDIES PROGRAMS

Sports Studies as a discipline is comparatively new. However it is a growing area and one which has now been established at many Universities around the world. Sports studies have three distinct areas of specialization. Firstly the Sports Psychology, secondly Sports Management and last but not the least is Sports Physiology.

Sports Psychologists want to work with top athletes and they are looking at what will take those athletes that one percent extra, to make them win. Sports Psychologists work with the athletes through their training program and become an integral part of the team, in fact they play just as an important role as a Coach.

Secondly Sports Management goes hand in hand with the area of Sports Marketing. The Sports Management team takes care of issues relating to running of Sports clubs and management of athletes. On the other hand there is the Sports Marketing which looks at the market forces behind the Sports. An interesting question comes to mind. Why do people spend their money on expensive tickets to a Football match or a Tennis game rather than going to the cinema or buying CDs. What are the market forces that drive them? They want entertainment, best seats, and something to remember. So the Marketing people take pride in all these commercial issues and how it hooks back into the Management of Sports.

The third branch of Sports Studies which is also known as Exercise Science which takes care of fitness testing and body measurements and looks at the micro level of cellular change. They do Cellular Research to assess changes in body cells when the body is under stress.

Sports Studies Programs are offered around the world in almost every single Country. These include US, UK, Australia, New Zealand, Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Spain, Greece, and many other European Countries.
